Synopsis
Kubo and the Two Strings Full Hd Movie: In its earlier films, “Coraline,” “ParaNorman,” and “The Boxtrolls,” the Oregon-based animation studio Laika exhibited a deliciously dark sense of humor and a penchant for twisted narrative. The title character in Laika CEO Travis Knight’s directorial debut, “Kubo and the Two Strings,” is in grave peril from the moment we meet him.
The little Japanese kid who gives the film its namesake learns early on that the world can be harsh, that family cannot always be trusted, and that he will often have to act as the adult in the equation when his dying mother is unable to do so.
The screenplay by Marc Haimes and Chris Butler (based on a tale by Haimes and Shannon Tindle) displays trust in children’s ability to manage such difficult situations and never speaks down to them. However, Knight and his enormous crew of animators have wrapped these hefty, complicated topics in graphics that are both stunning and meticulously crafted.

“Kubo and the Two Strings,” which took ten years to create, is very large and painstakingly constructed. Inspired by a wide range of Japanese art styles, it’s rough but sharp, shockingly dark yet vibrant with color. It’s a typical hero’s journey full of action and adventure, but it’s also a touching tale about love and loss, magic, and remembrance.
Above all, “Kubo and the Two Strings” is a film about storytelling and its power to alter and unite people. The film’s ageless quality gives it an overall sense of cinematic elegance, with unmistakable tributes to greats such as Kurosawa, Miyazaki, Spielberg, and Lucas. The poignancy of the performances by its great voice cast delivers an instant emotional blow.
“If you must blink, do it now,” the courageous Art Parkinson (from “Game of Thrones”) urges us as the title character. And there is a lot to take in here at every level. Kubo’s mother fled her family, braving severe seas to safeguard her newborn baby, whose grandpa pulled out his left eye in a bitter fury.
